Daily Dental Care Tips That Really Work

Most dental problems we treat could have been prevented at home. Not with expensive gadgets, but with a routine that is consistent and done properly. Below are the habits our hygienists recommend to every patient who sits in our chair.

Brush for a full two minutes, twice a day, with a fluoride toothpaste. Angle the brush at forty five degrees towards the gum line and use small circles rather than long scrubbing strokes. Scrubbing hard does not clean better, it wears the enamel and pushes the gums back.

Healthy teeth are built between appointments. What you do every morning and evening matters far more than anything we can do twice a year.

Flossing is the step most people skip, and it is the one that protects the spaces a brush cannot reach. If traditional floss is awkward, interdental brushes or a water flosser work just as well, as long as you use them daily.

What To Keep In The Bathroom

A soft or medium brush, a fluoride toothpaste, floss or interdental brushes, and an alcohol free mouthwash. Replace the brush head every three months, or sooner if the bristles splay.

Switching to interdental brushes made a real difference at my last check up. Thanks for the clear explanation.

Could you write something about the best routine for children under six? That would be really useful.
